15 years National Library Week in Bulgaria

The year 2021 marks 15 years since the start of the National Library Week and since the first Day of the Librarian in Bulgaria, which is celebrated on 11th of May– the date of the Bulgarian Saints, Apostles Cyril and Methodius.

In the history of the Bulgarian libraries and culture these two events are also connected with the name and the contribution of Snejana Ianeva, who was born in Dimitrovgrad. She is honored as a champion of the cause of preservation and modernization of the Bulgarian literary centers – the libraries.

Our historic and cultural memory requires remembering that thanks to Snejana Ianeva’s inspired work and the efforts of her colleagues throughout the whole country, the concepts about the Day of the Librarian and the National Library Week were born in 2002 and became a social reality in 2006.
